Lovesong

Oh let us go to Greenwich you and I And see the origin of time The place where seconds were first discovered Bubbling up like hic-ups in grey mud covered Up on that there hill  overlooking Olde Father Thames And later hours were found Once they had a powerful  Embroided large handkerchief To wipe the sweat from the brows  of nearby weary tradesmen whose job was to surface the roads; To help the passage of time  flow more seamlessly. Oh let’s go to Greenwich you and me Where the river tide flows out Towards the sea And the baby in its buggy Grows whiskers on her cheeks Whilst the museum assistant Makes sure no one speaks As he takes stock in the corner Who left him in charge Of the gold leaf flotilla And the funeral barge?

Outcrop

Outcrop   This soon to be the heir to The skin stretched camping chair The wanderer above the lakes Cuts a distinctive figure Upon a dry-stone wall Plastic adventurer’s camera in hand Arise sir win-a-lot Reborn without cuticles Magnificent in discreet isolation Child man elect Ribbing the yellow gardens Of dawn’s early sitting Soot settling on your cheeks You will wipe that smile Off the escarpment’s Skittering fossil face Skimming one for luck Out of the corner of your Daddy’s eye For you are the daddy  Now and forever There’s no going back No looking down The view churns over leaf Bite sized reminders On the back of your hand You feel held Back and back we go Are we there yet?

Life can't be lump free

Life can’t be completely unlumpy That’s easy for you to say You mean without lumps? One or two The soul travels at the speed of a camel The desert was a delight The angels did sing. Life can’t be without its ups and downs That’s not for you to say One for the road Over the bridge Hold onto your knickers The moors were in my mind The angels did sing Life can’t be lump free Without lumpy bits Bacon ham and sausage Oh and cigarettes That’s the c word you know Might be a Cyst The ward was deserted The angels did sing
